About

Immediately prior to opening my practice, I served as a research attorney at Northwestern University School of Law. For the Searle Center on Law and Economics, I researched public policy issues relevant to Law and Economics and Searle Civil Justice Institute projects. I assisted in implementing the inaugural Northwestern Law Attorney’s General Education Program by researching state government organization, relevant areas of legal and empirical study, and program curriculum. I contributed to Northwestern Law Judicial Education Program through legal research and conference participation. In addition, I prepared syllabi and lecture notes for Northwestern Law L.L.M. courses taught by Executive Director Henry N. Butler, J.D., Ph.D.

As an associate attorney at a Chicago insurance defense firm, I defended insurers and self-insureds in matters of catastrophic loss, professional liability, products liability, construction, trucking, and transportation law in State and Federal Court. I handled all aspects of cases, from pre-suit investigation, strategy, and analysis, to litigation including pleadings, substantive motions, written discovery, depositions, settlement, and trial.

I spent five years working for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. During law school, I served as the law clerk to then Chief of the Sexual Crimes Division, Shauna Boliker. As a law clerk, I assisted in investigation, preparation, and trial of sexual crimes cases. I performed legal research for the sex crimes division, and wrote memoranda and motions. As a student, I prosecuted felony cases pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711.

During my tenure as an Assistant State’s Attorney, I represented the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services in child support actions, such as paternity, child support, and enforcement proceedings, including contempt. I also represented the People of the State of Illinois in Domestic Violence prosecutions, from approving charges, bond hearings, motions and discovery, to trial. I trained new Assistant State’s Attorneys. I was the first chair for administrative hearings and trials in Expedited Child Support, and trials in the Domestic Violence Division. I also maintained responsibilities in the Sex Crimes Division, including the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners training for Sexual Assault Response Team and select special prosecutions.
